Гораций, не худший из нас и основоположник здравого смысла, бежал с поля боя. Он же, судя по всему, придумал помещать зеркало на потолке над постелью. Мужеству - свое место.
That's right, in his Vita Horatii. Horace was not original, though. Hostius Quadra was there first http://www.fordham.edu/halsall/pwh/seneca-nq1-16.html BTW these early brass mirrors were magnifying (that was the whole point of using them) and were put right on the wall ot the bed rather than the ceilings, as these mirrors were too small and distorting for that. The first mirror over the bed was invented by the French, in the 1660s, on the orders of Louis XIV. It actually took a very long time and much technical progress to invent. It is unfair to give all credit to Horace.
Well, I was just trying to strengthen my point and was not aware of Quadra's precedence. Thanks for introducing clarity, I was wondering myself about this technological discrepancy.
