Nielsen' and Ninomiya' idea is simple and elegant although a more general version of the same is the subject of the novella "A billion years before the end of the world" by the Strugatskii brothers (not that I am a fan but they had some good ideas). On the other hand...I rather expect to hear about the discovery of the Higgs within the next 5 years.
